Safari Overview
This 2-day safari pairs two of Tanzania's most dramatically different ecosystems into one perfectly structured itinerary. It is the ideal introduction to northern Tanzania's wildlife - powerful enough to stand on its own, and a natural stepping stone to longer northern circuit adventures.
Day 1 in Tarangire delivers a landscape unlike anywhere else on the safari circuit: a dry-season mosaic of ancient baobab trees, enormous termite castles, and the Tarangire River - the only water source for miles - drawing animals in spectacular concentrations. Tarangire's elephant herds are among Africa's largest, and predators including lion, cheetah, and leopard hunt across terrain that feels ancient and untouched.
Day 2 in the Ngorongoro Crater is in a different category entirely. You descend 610 metres into an extinct volcanic caldera - the world's largest intact - where roughly 25,000 animals live in a self-contained ecosystem with no need to ever leave. The result is the densest, most reliable wildlife viewing on the entire continent: the endangered black rhino, enormous lion prides, vast herds of wildebeest and zebra, and giant-tusked elephants all sharing a 260km - bowl of extraordinary beauty.
The Perfect Short Safari
For travellers with limited time, this 2-day itinerary delivers maximum wildlife impact across two entirely different ecosystems - without compromising on quality. Mid-range lodge accommodation is included; luxury upgrades to crater-rim lodges are available on request.
Daily Itinerary
Starting from Arusha, the journey leads to Farm of Dreams Lodge through the landscapes named in the program. Inside Tarangire, baobab woodland and the river corridor create varied habitat. Elephants, giraffes, zebras, antelope and predators may be encountered, and your guide chooses roads according to current conditions rather than promising particular sightings.

A full day is set aside for Day Game Drive → Arusha, allowing the experience to unfold without a rushed timetable. The Ngorongoro landscape combines a forested rim with grassland, wetlands and soda-lake habitat on the crater floor. Wildlife can be diverse, but the guide reads conditions carefully and keeps every sighting patient and responsible. On the 2 Days Tarangire & Ngorongoro Crater Safari, this is the main focus of day 2.

Best Time to Visit
Both Tarangire and Ngorongoro offer excellent game viewing year-round. Ngorongoro's closed ecosystem means it never truly has an "off season" - the crater delivers reliably in every month. Tarangire is most spectacular in the dry season when wildlife concentrations at the river are at their peak.
| Season | Months | Tarangire | Ngorongoro | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Peak Dry | Jun - Oct | Best - river concentrations peak | Excellent year-round | Largest elephant herds; clear skies |
| Short Dry | Jan - Feb | Very Good | Excellent | Good visibility; calving season |
| Long Rains | Apr - May | Good - lush & green | Good - fewer visitors | Lowest prices; off-peak crowds |
| Short Rains | Nov - Dec | Good - migratory birds arrive | Good | Afternoon showers; lush landscapes |
