Nyerere National Park, formerly known as Selous Game Reserve, is Africa’s largest and oldest game reserve. The beauty of the park is matched by the quality of a safari and the diverse activities in the park. Nyerere Park covers 50,000 square km and is among the largest protected areas in Africa. Relatively undisturbed by humans, Nyerere National Park is rich in elephant, cheetah, giraffe, hippo and crocodile, as well as many other species.

Daily Itinerary
Nyerere Game Drive
Early in the morning, at 4:30am, we'll pick you up from your hotel and transfer you to the airport. Take flight to Nyerere National Park, embark on a game drive in the park after breakfast. Our professional guide will accompany you on this game drive.
You will see a large variety of birds and the incredible scenery of varied topography: wetlands, dry grassland, light acacia forest, and higher ground with vast views of far-off mountains. You will stop for lunch at 1:30pm and enjoy a short break before continuing the game drive at 3:00pm. Once the game drive is complete, we will transfer you to Zanzibar for your 4:00pm flight. Depending on your requirements, we can drop you off at the airport or a hotel. The drop-off marks the end of the tour.

Guests on Zanzibar who want wildlife but cannot give up overnight time to the mainland.
Expectation setting
Because it is a day trip, the experience is necessarily shorter than a standard safari, but it still gives a real taste of the southern bush.
Why it works
Air access is what makes this itinerary possible. Overland travel would not be realistic for a same-day safari.
Upgrade option
If you can add one night, the 2-day or 3-day Nyerere fly-in safari becomes much more relaxed.
Best Time to Travel
Dry-season months are best for concentrated wildlife viewing, though the day-fly format can be offered beyond peak periods depending on flight schedules.
