Best Time to Visit

All four parks offer excellent game viewing year-round. The Serengeti's Great Migration river crossings peak July - October in the northern Serengeti, while the calving season (Jan - Mar) offers extraordinary newborn wildlife spectacle on the southern plains. The balloon safari operates year-round. Tarangire and Manyara are at their most dramatic in the dry season (June - October) when wildlife concentrates around water sources. The Ngorongoro Crater's enclosed ecosystem is excellent in every month.

Frequently Asked Questions

The hot air balloon safari over the Serengeti is consistently described by our guests who have done it as one of the most extraordinary experiences of their lives - not just on safari, but in any context. Rising in silence over 18,000 square kilometres of plains at dawn, watching the landscape and wildlife below without the sound of an engine, in the company of a highly experienced balloon pilot who narrates what you're seeing, is an experience that simply cannot be replicated from a vehicle. The champagne breakfast on the open plains afterward, laid out under an acacia tree in the middle of the Serengeti, adds to the sense of occasion. We recommend booking it when you book the overall safari - balloon places are very limited and sell out months in advance in peak season.
The Manyara Treetop Walkway is a canopy-level walkway through the groundwater forest of Lake Manyara National Park - a sky-high adventure that takes you among the treetops at 20-25 metres above the forest floor. You walk above the canopy with views across the forest to the Rift Valley escarpment and the lake beyond, while birds, monkeys, and the sounds of the forest surround you at eye level rather than below. It is a fundamentally different way of experiencing the park - one that vehicle game drives cannot offer - and it adds a genuinely unique dimension to the safari's final day. The walkway is included in the 7-day safari price.
Four days in the Serengeti transforms what you experience compared to one or two-day visits. With four days, your guide can: follow individual lion prides through complete morning hunting sequences; wait for cheetah hunts to fully develop rather than moving on after a brief sighting; explore the woodland zones, kopje environments, and riverine areas that shorter itineraries never reach; and build up a relationship with the park's resident animals that makes each subsequent drive more informed and rewarding. Guests who have previously visited the Serengeti on shorter itineraries consistently say that four days feels like the first time they truly understood the park. The additional days also provide insurance against the weather, road conditions, and wildlife location variability that can affect any individual drive.
The migration is a year-round phenomenon - wildebeest are always somewhere in the Serengeti ecosystem, and with four days in the park you will almost certainly encounter enormous herds. The famous Mara River crossings occur in the northern Serengeti from approximately July to October. The calving season on the southern plains (January - March) produces a different but equally extraordinary spectacle - hundreds of thousands of newborn wildebeest within days of birth, surrounded by predators taking advantage of the abundance. Your LuiTours guide tracks current migration positions through the park's real-time guide network and routes game drives accordingly.
On every day of this safari, your guide discusses with you the best timing options for game drives, breaks, and wake-up times. You are not on a fixed schedule. If you want a very early start for dawn light photography on Day 3, your guide accommodates that. If you want a midday rest at camp on Day 4, that is equally possible. The guide also continuously adapts the drive route based on real-time wildlife intelligence shared across the park's guide network - if a cheetah hunt is developing three kilometres away, your guide knows about it and can position you accordingly. This level of flexibility and responsiveness is what distinguishes a fully guided private safari from group tourism.
